License

Atested is distributed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1). The licensor is Greg Keeter. The licensed work is the Atested governance layer.

The BSL 1.1 grants you the right to use, copy, modify, and redistribute the source code for personal, evaluation, academic, and research purposes at no cost. Commercial production use requires a paid license.

On March 30, 2030, the entire codebase automatically converts to the Apache License 2.0. After that date, all use is free and unrestricted under Apache 2.0 terms. No action is required on your part for the conversion to take effect.

What counts as commercial production use

Commercial production use means deploying Atested in a revenue-generating service, internal business operations with multiple users, or client-facing deployments. If you are unsure whether your use qualifies, contact us through the contact form.

What counts as personal use

Personal use means a single operator using Atested for non-commercial purposes. This includes personal projects, evaluation, testing, academic work, and contributing to the project. No license key is required for personal use.
